The Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) congratulates the Honourable Dr Steven Miles on becoming the State’s 40th Premier and the Honourable Cameron Dick for becoming Deputy Premier.

Just this week, new figures demonstrated that homelessness continues to grow in Queensland.

A plan to end Queensland’s housing crisis should be the immediate priority of the Miles Government.

QCOSS is calling for the release of the government’s long-term housing plan, which should include a commitment to building significantly more social and affordable housing, making renting fair, and boosting funding for frontline services.

The cost of renting, energy bills, petrol, and food are putting the basics out of reach for many Queenslanders.

While this week’s Queensland 2023-24 Budget Update demonstrated a strengthening state economy, cost of living relief is the right priority for the Queensland Government.

QCOSS and the community services sector continue to be committed to working with the Queensland Government to ensure Queenslanders have support when they need it the most.

QCOSS CEO Aimee McVeigh has called on Premier Miles to meet urgently to discuss how he will address the housing crisis and provide cost of living relief in the next few months.
