 Job Description

The Supportive Housing – Hope Street team are based at Brisbane Common Ground. Each element of Supportive Housing, from the building to support service design, aims to create the greatest degree of empowerment and independence for people. Supportive Housing – Hope Street uses the Housing First model.

As the Activities and Engagement worker you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to create, facilitate and maintain social engagement opportunities for the tenants of Brisbane Common Ground and to empower them to make choices that improve their quality of life.

This is a permanent full time employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 4 of the SCHADS Award.

 Desired Skills and Experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Service Delivery:
    • Engage tenants in activities within Brisbane Common Ground and the community.
    • Collaborate with tenants to decide on activities and maintain an activities calendar.
    • Organize food activities for large groups.
    • Source opportunities for community event participation.
    • Facilitate group activities to tackle social isolation.
    • Proactively engage tenants to maximize event attendance.
    • Review and gather feedback on activities.
    • Promote activities with the team.
    • Ensure child and vulnerable adult safeguarding.
    • Provide support as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Offer excellent customer service and problem-solving in high-pressure environments.
    • Liaise professionally with all stakeholders.
  • Data Management:
    • Complete administration and data collection for reporting.
    • Ensure organizational data and records are accurate and consistent.
  • Collaborative Practice:
    • Work collaboratively within the team, demonstrating teamwork, support, and communication.
    • Provide mentoring and guidance as needed.
  • Professional Practice:
    • Participate in supervision and professional development.
    • Manage self-care and maintain professionalism.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in facilitating community engagement events.
  • Experience working with people who have experienced homelessness, substance use, or mental health issues.
  • Effective communication skills and IT competencies.
  • Commitment to cultural diversity and knowledge of equity and WHS principles.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work flexibly and proactively in a team environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Current Food Handling Certificate.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
