Building strong boards through succession planning

Registration is closed for this event
Strategic thinking about succession planning is essential for building a strong board.

Through effective succession planning, communities ensure smooth leadership transitions and maintain effective governance. This supports self-determination and enables communities to take control of their governance structures and decision-making processes.

This two-part series will lead participants through practical exercises and reflections to guide governance succession planning in their own organisation. We recommend you attend both sessions.

These webinars are presented by Australian Indigenous Governance Institute (AIGI), in partnership with QCOSS. AIGI is dedicated to promoting good governance practices within Australian Indigenous communities. Our mission is to empower boards and organisations, fostering effective governance and self-determination. We focus on providing communities with the knowledge and tools necessary to achieve their aspirations. Join us as we support and enhance the capabilities of board members, executives, and professionals in governance.

All community organisations are welcome to participate.

Part 1: Using a skills matrix
Building a skills matrix allows boards to assess their collective skills and competencies, and to identify their strengths and areas for development. This knowledge empowers boards to make informed decisions particularly about succession planning, navigate challenges, and to drive positive change within their communities.

Part 2: Strategic planning reflection
Strategic planning is a core part of succession planning and plays a critical role in ensuring the continuity of governance practices within communities. By integrating succession planning into strategic planning, community organisations gain powerful tools to shape their own purposes, navigate change, make strategic decisions, and forge a sustainable and prosperous future. This session will take participants through a guided activity to reflect on their existing strategic plan and how it incorporates succession planning.
