Energy rewards and rebates update

In October 2017 the Queensland Government announced a number of new rewards and rebates aimed at reducing electricity bills and increasing the uptake of more energy efficient appliances as part of the Affordable Energy Plan.

You can find more details on how to register interest and apply for the rebates on the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy website.

$50 rebate off household bills in 2018 and 2019

All Queensland households will receive $50 off their electricity bills in 2018 and 2019. This will happen automatically from March 2018 and you do not need to do apply for the rebate. More details can be found at this link.

Rebates for energy efficient appliances

To help Queensland households improve their energy efficiency and lower energy usage the government is offering rebates on approved energy efficient appliances.

Rebates will apply to purchases on or after 1 January 2018 (so keep you receipts as proof of purchase) of the following household appliances:

  • $200 for a 4 star or higher energy rated washing machine
  • $250 for a 4 star or higher energy rated refrigerator
  • $300 for a 4 star or higher energy rated air conditioner.

The rebate is limited to one rebate application per household. Funding is limited and rebates will be provided for as long as funding is available.

Applications are now open on the following webpage.

To be eligible for the rebate, you need to submit a fully complete application within 30 days from the date of purchase. If you purchased your appliance prior to applications opening, you will need to lodge a fully complete application by 20 March 2018.

Assistance to help purchase these appliances is available via the No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS). Find your nearest NILS provider at this site.

Rooftop solar and battery systems: No interest loans and rebates for households and small businesses

No interest loans will be available to enable households and small businesses, including community organisations, to install rooftop solar and battery systems.

A rebate of $1,300 to $2,000 will also be available on battery systems.
